The Provinces and Territories
Introduction
Canada is a federal state consisting of ten provinces and three territories. To better understand the workings of the
Canadian federal system, this section will provide a brief overview of:
- Canada's federal system;
- The differences between provinces and territories; and
- the Constitutional division of powers.
From there, this section will explore in greater detail how the provinces and territories are governed.
Finally, this section will also look at the issue of
federal-provincial relations and some of the main issues that challenge the viabilitiy of the Canadian federal system.
